"A Dill Pickle"

I am trying to do an English paper and I am confused about "A Dill Pickle" by Katherine Mansfield. I understand that there is a difference in classes between the woman and the man. I cannot decide if he is from a lower class than her and is trying to impress her with his stories of travel or if she is from a lower class than him. I do not want anyone to do my homework so if answering this question would make you think that you are doing my homework, could you at least set me on a path to the answer?
