Default Help Analysing Characters

I am right now reading Edgar Allan Poe's "The Gold Bug". I have been using this as my story for analysis in my English course. I understand the impressionism and racism used, but as for the character Legrand, I am having trouble figuring out what to write about him.

I was wondering if anyone has any pointers to get me heading the right direction with the character Legrand. Just maybe a point or idea that I can maybe expand on. If not, does anybody know of any good text sources or sites that can help me out?

Thank you for any help given!

Hello RSP!

It is always helpful to look for this kind of infomation just surfing the net, study notes are GREAT!

When you have time, read these character descriptions carefully and look closely at how they were written.

If you want to do it yourself, you may begin with his appearance (tall-short-young), then with aspects of personality, (generous-mean), then how these aspects are shown in the story (try to find the examples).

Finally you may give a more elaborated description of the importance of the character's view, opinion, personality related to the story (i.e. psychological analysis, symbolism, etc.)

These are just baby steps, I hope they help.

And these are two sites which may be useful.
