How one should approach literature
In studying literature, interpretation plays an important role. To know exactly what author said and to understand meanings one has to interpret the texts one reads.
In literature, there are two genres in general_fiction and non-fiction. Approaching them has different ways.
As for a student of literature, taking notes for prescribed texts is also important too, because he needs to quote an original text in his exam answer sheet.
Here, I wonder how to memorize the quotations and use them in the exam.
I would like to know more about studying literature. Can you comment on my view and give me your advice and suggestion?

Re: How one should approach literature
In my view the answer of you question lies on what the exam looks like. If the exam asks you for quotations without open book you may need study your literature book as you do math101 textbook. But i don't think it's the case.
