Can someone please give me an expanation (both actual and abstract) for R.L.Stevenson's poem "Travel" from Child's Garden of Verses

This is good advice. Even a native speaker cannot know for sure what a complex poem is about. Just understanding the words is not enough, because poets try to give deeper meaning to them. The explanation we give may not be what the poet actually intended.
