Vilks told CNN he saw the threat against himself and others as greater now than before.

The sentence was in red that I don't understand.

I tried to understand that the sentence means the threat is important now than before?
 
The threat is more dangerous than it was before.

"He saw the threat as [being] greater than before."
"He saw the threat as greater now than before."
"He saw the threat as being greater now than it was before."
 
May I take 'greater' to mean 'more serious' in this context?
 
If a threat is bigger, it is more serious.
