Is this sentence "What's a kind of animals you're talking about then?" grammatically correct?

Re: Is this sentence grammatically correct?

Is [STRIKE]this[/STRIKE] the sentence "[STRIKE]What's a[/STRIKE] What kind of animal/animals [STRIKE]you're[/STRIKE] are you talking about [STRIKE]then[/STRIKE]?" grammatically correct?

Welcome to the forum. :hi:

Your original sentence was not grammatically correct. With my corrections above, it is. I don't know whether "animal" or "animals" is appropriate because I don't know whether the person in question was talking about one animal or more.

Thank you. Can't we use "then" at the end of a question? And why?

Re: Is this sentence grammatically correct?

You can but I saw absolutely no need for it in your standalone question. It would work as part of a longer dialogue.

Helen: What's that animal with green spots and blue legs?
Sam: What? I have no idea.
Helen: Yes, you do. It's that one that makes that really weird noise at night.
Sam: Baffling! Are you talking about some kind of bird?
Helen: No, it's definitely not a bird.
Sam: OK. Is it a mammal?
Helen: No, I don't think so. I think it's native to Switzerland. Does that help?
Sam: Not really! Are you talking about some kind of marsupial.
Helen: No.
Sam: This is ridiculous. What kind of animal are you talking about then?!
