Was my teacher referring to the sentence that I explained in class ?

In class the teacher gave us this sentence to explain:


"If you don't do your job, your life will become difficult and you won't pass this class"


after 5 minutes I was the first one to explain the


sentence, I said:


"I will tell you my explanation and understanding to this sentence, with the hope


of my explanation and understanding are correct:


the sentence means that the teacher is telling the student that


if he does not study hard he will face trouble in this class, and


ultimately will fail it"


After that the class ended and I went and asked my teacher and said:


"is my explanation correct ?"


and he said:


"Yes, your explanation is correct. However, you do not make an explanation to something. You make an explanation for it or of it. In the sentence you said in class, I would say "my explanation of". You can make an explanation of something to a person but not to a thing"

Was my teacher referring to the sentence that I explained ?

Your teacher was referring to this: "I will tell you my explanation and understanding of this sentence, with the hope that my explanation and understanding are correct."

I would replace the second use of "my explanation and understanding " with "they".
