Is the following phrase correct?The hungry would receive food for free or if not for free, they definitely pay a much lower prize.

So if you"re not hungry you pay the regular price. If you are hungry you pay a lower price.

I believe "the hungry" is used the way we use "the poor" or "the disadvantaged."

In that case, I would say receive free food rather than receive food free. I have no objection to for free.
