What does “cancelling” mean? We know a visa can be cancelled. But cancelling a man is different. It includes but not limited to robbing away one's dignity... I am not sure.

This is what “cancelling” someone would look like if it weren’t taking place in digital space. Human nature isn’t changed by technology it’s just made more efficient.

The fact that the word "cancelling" is in quotation marks in the original suggests that it's not being used in any of its standard definitions. Is there nothing else in the Twitter conversation that gives some clue as to what it's supposed to mean?
If you've found a definition that suggests something to do with taking away a person's dignity, I would say that that looks like how it could be being used in relation to that photo.

It's a relatively new buzzword, but in theory is a form of boycott. Like everything else, people get carried away and often take it to extremes more offensive than the original blunder, to where it becomes harassment and bullying.

See the entry about cancelling/cancel culture under the Wikipedia entry for online shaming.

See also cancel culture.

Really? Technology makes human nature more efficient?

I don't think Mike said what he meant to say.
