Does that make sense? I do mean here that YOURS refers to "your family." Enlighten me!

You mean like in "Greetings to you and yours" or "Merry christmas to you and yours?" Your sentence sounds incomplete to me.
 
This phrase has not been that well defined. Generally, it is taken to mean to you and those people close to you. That would include family members as well as friends.
 
:up: The expression may* be more common in British English. It's so widely (and imprecisely - which is what makes it useful) used that BBC Radio 4 has a regular weekday programme with this name. (It's on in the background as I write.)
