Difference between these two sentences ...

Dear Friends,

Please let me know the difference between the following two sentences:

1) The Maintenance Department internal meeting was held on Wednesday, January 31, 2010 at 10:00 am to review & discuss the agenda.

2) The Maintenance Department internal meeting was called on Wednesday, January 31, 2010 at 10:00 am to review & discuss the agenda.

Please let me know whether these two sentences are interchable.

The first sentence clearly states that the meeting occurred on Wednesday, January 31.

The second sentence is a little less clear. To "call" a meeting is to announce or schedule it, and would usually be followed by "to" (to explain the reason for the meeting) or "for" (to give the time).

Examples:

A meeting was called to discuss the budget. The meeting was originally called for Thursday, but was cancelled due to the rain. The meeting was held on Friday.

It's also possible that it's missing the phrase "to order."

When a meeting is "called to order" it officially starts.
