Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentences?

So there’s really the rub.

The rub is that so few of the scholars have any sense of true science.

rub = obstruction, difficulty

You have to rub lotion into your skin.

I could feel the cat rubbing against my leg.

Rub the glasses with this cloth.

Rub your hand against this surface.

He sighed and rubbed his hands with pleasure, like a man newly restored to liberty.

He rubbed his hands over his face and hair.

You have to rub your chest with ointment.

You have to rub some of this cream into your skin to protect it from the sun.

rub = revive, stir up

FYI: "rub along", (maybe more BrE than AmE) Verb . rub along - manage one's existence barely; "I guess I can squeeze by on this lousy salary"
scrape along, scrape by, scratch along, squeak by, squeeze by
get by, grapple, make do, cope, manage, contend, deal, make out - come to terms with; "We got by on just a gallon of gas"; "They made do on half a loaf of bread every day"
