Question1:
Will you use “for, on, or in”?
Question2:
Will you use “discipline, field, or area”?

Sentence:
I studied at ABC University. (ABC was ranked among the US’s top 20 for/on/in its research on the discipline/field/area of Electronics.)

I'd use for/in the field. However, I can't see much point in using the sentence if this is still for a CV. If you're applying for a job in this field, then it is likely that the person will know that it's a good university, so telling them in this way could come across as patronising or even a bit pushy. Simply the name of a good university should suffice, though other people may feel differently.

Plus it is no great claim to be ranked in the top 20 - the university could be number 19, which isn't very high.
