The following is a simplified sentence: Now in an exhibition, visitors watch as Mr. Yang makes paper as the Chinese have made it since AD105.My question is watch is a v,i, and the first as's function.Thank you.

The first “as” function as a conjunction. It takes the meaning of when, while or during the time that. The verb “watch” here is used as a v.i., but it is also a transitive verb, that is it takes an object too. I am not entirely clear about your question. Please rephrase so we could adequately provide an answer.:-?

Both "as"'s are conjunctions and introduce adverbial clauses.
