Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

I tried to reason with her, to coax her into a more tolerant frame of mind…but…she just dug her feet in. (Coward’s “Relative Values”)

dig in one’s feet = turn obstinate/ pigheaded

Interestingly, I've only ever heard "to dig one's heels in" used like this. However, it appears to mean the same thing - to stand your ground, to defend your position, to absolutely refuse to change your mind, to be determined to get your own way.

I'm not sure I'd go with "pigheaded" as that suggests a degree of stupidity, but "obstinate", yes.
