I did eat all the macaroni

Good Evening guys,

I can't remember where I heard that but someone told me that "did eat" was wrong. I didn't know what to say, but I think that it is not. And I can't explain why.
Why didn't we say "I ate all the macaroni" ? Is this "did eat" a really common (and correct) way to say that you actually ate something ?

Can you see a difference in these two dialogs?

A: Hey, is there any broccoli in the house?
B: Sorry, no. I ate all the broccoli last night.

Mom: Did you eat your vegetables?
Kid: Yes.
Mom: Even your broccoli?
Kid: Yes, I ate all my broccoli.
Mom: Really? You really ate it all?
Kid: Mom! I did eat all my broccoli! I did!

both forms are correct but when we want to emphasize something we use do ( and did in your example)

did/do means something like really.

I really ate all the maraconi means the same what I did eat all the macaroni.

The words [This isn't the only way, but I wanted to start a sentence with a capital, and didn't want to capitalize 'did' did/do means something like really. :-? So 'I did eat' means 'I really eat'?

'I really ate all the maraconi' means the same [STRIKE]what[/STRIKE] as 'I did eat all the macaroni'. :-? It depends what you mean by 'mean' ;-)

I imagine this post coincided with Barb's (which was more relaible ;-))
