[Grammar] What size is it? OR What is its size?

I am confused to use the type of questions mentioned in the title. Please let me know what is the correct way, what grammatical mistakes in the wrong one and what it means.

Something sounds fine to someone doesn't mean it is grammatically correct, does it ?
But the listeners are English experts so the learners can be sure that it's correct !
And you are however not a teacher but a native speaker and I think you may be a kind of expert. So your answer means both the sentences are correct absolutely without any doubt ! I believe that ! Haha, Thank you !

When somebody in this thread, especially a native speaker or a teacher/academic/ or both, says that something sounds fine, we can assume that it is grammatically correct unless/until somebody claims that it is not.

However, something can be 'grammatically correct' and not sound fine, either because it is nonsense (That man is a woman) or because it is unlikely that a native speaker would ever say it (Corn flakes were eaten by me this morning).

I think that the first is more commonly heard, but that the second is acceptable.

Yes, there are exceptions. "What size is it?" is probably more common for items that have an official size. Most things don't.
If you're asking about a dog, a house, a book, a mountain ... I think "How big is it?" would be more common.
