What is the difference between "got hit" and "was hit"?

ex) A: Did you hear about the accident?
B: What happened?
A: A bicycle was hit by a taxi in front of Seoul Station.

I guess "was hit" is some action done already, while "got hit" describes the state change like "come to be hit". Is it correct?

:up: To me, they mean the same. Apart from that, got hit is more informal in many situations.

:up: ...generally right, but 'got hit' can have an implication of fault on the part of the person who was hit: 'Sometimes people get hit - usually the stupid ones.'

Adding a reflexive object pronoun makes the fault even clearer: if someone 'gets himself hit' it "ain't nobody's fault but his"! ;-)
