Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to give me your considered opinion concerning the interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentences?

For the present this young man (although he certainly had turned the corner), lay still in a very precarious state. (R. Blackmore, “Cripps, the Carrier”)

..at last they had turned the corner of their lives and were in smooth water. (J. Galsworthy”)

Hilary began sending funny little notes the moment she had turned the corner. (J. Galsworthy, “Over the River”)

turn the corner = get out of an embarrassing situation , surpass a hardship, overcome a crisis

ATTENTION: NOT A TEACHER

(1) I agree with your interpretation. In other words, to get past a critical

point (literally or figuratively).

(2) For example, the United States (not to mention many other countries) is

experiencing bad economic conditions. Sadly, we have not yet turned the

corner in this matter. We are still suffering.

(3) On the other hand, [I shall be super careful with my words] it seems as if the

rebels in a "certain country" have turned the corner in their efforts to get rid of a

the country's former leader (even though they have not yet captured him).
