"I didn't understand what you mean/meant"

Hi,


The situation is two people are chatting.

A:........
B: I didn't understand what you mean.
or
B: I didn't understand what you meant.

Are both these sentences considered correct?

I think the first one is correct
I didn't understand what do you mean
because we have to use the infinitive not the past tense
after the auxiliary did ..

Mixed
EX: I don't understand (present) what you meant (past).
=> I don't understand today what you meant yesterday.

EX: I didn't understand (past) what you mean (present). awkward
=> ?I didn't understand yesterday what you mean today.
