Dear teachers

Which one is correct?

1 Writing English or Written English?
2 Writing skills or Written skills?
3 Speaking English or Spoken English?

I am sometimes quite confused about using these words. Is there a good way to remember the difference?

Many thanks,
G

They are all acceptable English but, as always, the context will probably dictate which one to use. Please try to write some sentences containing each one and we will look to see if we think the appropriate one has been used.

For example:

1 His (writing English / written English) is really good.
2 I have tried to improve my English (writing skills / Written skills).
3 His (speaking English or spoken English) is excellent?

I'm not a teacher.

However I can possibly distinguish between them. Hope this help.
1. Writing English: The act that you write something in English.
Written English: The way you use English words, phrases, sentences etc. when you're writing, not when you're speaking. Opposite to it is Spoken English.
2. Writing skills: The skills you need when you're writing.
Written skills: I don't know where you got this word from but I often hear Writing skills rather than Written skills. However this can be understood as the skills that are written down, I think so.
3. Speaking English: The act that you speak English language.
Spoken English: Opposite to Written English as mentioned above, it's the way you use English words, phrases etc. when you're speaking. For example you can use some taboos while speaking but they should not be used in an essay.

I might have explained wrong anything because I'm not a teacher. I'm also waiting for a teacher to answer this post and tell me if my explanation is right.

Thanks. :)
