Hi, I hope you can help me with this doubt.
One of my students wrote today this: I went to a party in my aunt's house. I was spending my time when suddenly...
My question is about the expression "I was spending my time". I don't think it is common to say that, so, how would you express what she meant?

It depends what she was doing.

You say , I went to a party at my aunt's house. Like Bhaisahab mentioned you need to know what he /she was doing there...
"I was enjoying myself, I was having a good time, I was whiling away my time....." can be suitable options.

papirrines, please note that a better thread title would have been 'I was spending my time'.

Extract from the Posting Guidelines:

'Thread titles should include all or part of the word/phrase being discussed.'

Note that in BrE, you would say "I went to a party at my aunt's house".

Or I was passing the time

Thank you so much!

Thank you very much! :)

Thank you, I really appreciate your help!

It's nice that you want to say thank you, but the best way to do that is to "like" an answer you found helpful (or just to show that you appreciate that the person tried to help you). You surely do not need three posts with no real new content.

When we see a thread has a new post, we think there must be a new question.
