Can use is twice in a sentence?
Example: A boy is sitting under the tree is playing a guitar.

From 4 sentences below, which one is the best?
1. A boy is sitting under the tree is playing a guitar.
2. A boy sitting under the tree is playing a guitar.
3. A boy is sitting under the tree playing a guitar.
4. A boy is sitting and playing a guitar under the tree.

All the sentences above are possibly used in informal conversation?

Please help me. It really confuses me.

I am not a teacher.

No, you can't. 1. doesn't work.

You can say, 'The boy who is sitting under the tree is playing a guitar'.

You can also say "the boy is sitting under a tree and is playing a guitar."

Re: Can use is twice in a sentence?

You can also say "the boy is sitting under a tree and is playing a guitar."

How about number 2,3,4? Are they correct?

Re: Can use is twice in a sentence?

Yes. 4 is a bit awkward. The idea is that he's sitting under a tree. I think that is best kept together.

Re: Can use is twice in a sentence?

How about number 3?

Hello, Jenthyx:

IF I understand some of my books correctly, #3 needs a comma in writing and a pause in speaking:

"A boy is sitting under a tree, playing a guitar."

The reason is that "playing a guitar" refers to "A boy."

Compare: "Playing a guitar, a boy is sitting under a tree."
