Dear All,

I have just come across the wonderful song 'The Rocky Road to Dublin' as I've been searching for traditional Irish songs.

I have checked the lyrics many times but I still can't figure out what 'hunt the hare and turn her down' means in this song.
I know that a hare is a kind of rabbit, but what does it stand for here? And what does 'turn down' mean in this context?

I would be really grateful if someone answered these questions of mine.

Thank you very much.:)

The full lyrics are here. You have not quoted a full sentence. It's 'Hunt the hare and turn her down the rocky road and all the way to Dublin'.

My guess is that it means '...chase her down the rocky road to Dublin'.

Yes, you can "turn down" a road.
