Hi guys,

Do we need to say "No more sequels of rocky or rocky's?

Of "Rocky." Capitalized. In italics or quotes.

Why is it wrong to say "Rocky's", we say "A friend of mine or an enemy of yours".

"Rocky" is a film, it can't possess anything.

"No more Rocky sequels".

So we have to say "There are several characters of mahabharat not mahabharat's", because mahabharat is a non living thing and cannot posses anything.

Gravity's
cinematography was phenomenal. A movie's premiere.

If Mahabharat is the incredibly long Indian "soap opera" which used to be shown on British TV, then we wouldn't say "characters of" at all.

There are many characters in Mahabharat.

I agree with you about the first. As for the second, in BrE, we would call it a "film/movie premiere".

OK so what about my sentence. By the way mahabhart was a reality.

Mahabharata is an epic written by Vyasa. When you drop that "a", you are possibly talking of any of its adaptations. (The T.V. series and a couple of movies.)

Either way, it should be written like emsr2d2 noted. "There are many characters in Mahabharat(a).".

OK so if anything which is non living and cannot posses anything we can't use "'s" for that thing?

OK so if [STRIKE]anything[/STRIKE] something [STRIKE]which[/STRIKE] is non-living and cannot possess anything, we can't use "'s" for that thing?

We didn't say that. You have already been given the example "Gravity's cinematography was phenomenal". That is a correct sentence. However, the specific example you gave with the film "Rocky" and "sequel" doesn't take the possessive.

There have been three Rocky sequels.
There have been three Star Wars trilogy prequels and there will soon be three Star Wars trilogy sequels.
Have you read the Lord of the Rings sequel?

With books and films, we don't use the possessive when talking about prequels and sequels.

But apart from books, films and serials we can use "'s" for anyrhing.

Did I say that?

Please explain once more.

Please elaborate.
