What is the job role of a person directing traffic in parking lot called? In US, we see people doing these temporary traffic control tasks in parking lots at events where everybody is trying to get out at the same time. I am looking for the colloquial term used to reference these helpers. Thanks.

In the UK, they're called "marshals".

In the US, we often call them "attendants".

I have heard attendant being used to refer to people who park the car as in valet parking attendant, or manage parking spaces like a parking lot attendant, or who issue citations like a parking attendant.

what about people who control traffic flow?

I don't know if I have ever run across such a person. I would still probably refer to them as attendants.
