I have speech problems.

Help!! I am 13, nearing my 14th birthday, and I have a bad speech problem. Whenever I say Ch as in cheese or speech, It sounds slushy (Like Sid the Sloth). The same thing happens when I say Sh like in short. I don't like it and it annoys me. Pleas Help!

Yes, a speech therapist would help.

The slushy sound is air slipping sideways off the left and right sides of your tongue.

Try putting the sides of your tongue on the roof of your mouth, resting lightly against your upper teeth. That way, air can only go out the front of your mouth, making good ch and sh sounds.

If your j sound is good in words like jar, judge, and badge, you might try that as a starting point. The sh and ch sounds are made a lot like how j sound is made.

Once you get it right, practice.
