Have I made any mistakes?

Peter wore a pair of shoes in different colours to spite everyone.

Perhaps:

Peter wore an unmatched pair of shoes to spite everyone.

I don't really understand the last part.

Tarheel,

Some people don't like when they see a person wearing an unmatched pair of shoes or unmatched socks. This is unusual and immediate provokes a reaction in people. I remember a football couch who asked a reporter at the press conference why he was wearing an unmatched pair of socks. The reporter replied that this was his habit and the coach shook his head and told him that it didn't look good. He should give up that habit and come to his press conference properly dress.

Yes, it is unusual, but I have put on an unmatched pair of socks when I was in a hurry and couldn't readily find a matching pair and knew nobody would see them. I also once wore an unmatched pair of sneakers because I was a bit careless. (They were both blue, hey!)
