Hello.

Is it true that Scottish accent sounds a little like Russian accent? Even to native-speakers. Do you think the sounds are the same?

Not to my ear.

Nor to mine.

No, not at all.

The Scottish accent includes a couple of sounds that can also occur in Russian and are missing from other Anglophone accents. Nevertheless, Scots speaking English don't sound at all like Russians speaking English.

By the way Rachel, where did you come across that claim?

Hello.

Highly doubtful.

I read about it before on language forums. It's not a claim. Maybe an assumption? I don't know. As a naitive Russian speaker, I can say that the Scottish accent may sometimes sound like the Russian accent to my ears. Or just very similar.
For example, this young man's accent does. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiYmRBEtdU8

I am not saying that Scots speaking English sound like Russians speaking English. The accents may sometimes seem similar to us, so I was wondering what you native speakers of English think about it.

It may superficially sound similar, but to native ears, a Scottish accent is immediately recognizable as that.

I have a bunch of relatives who immigrated to the United States from Russia, so I've heard a lot of Russian accents. The only similarity is that both accents can include trilled /r/ and guttural /ch/ sounds.

"thrilled"? Did you mean "trilled"?

Russian-accented English is easier to understand!

Scottish English and Russian also both feature the "dark L" sound.
