Hello,

I want to suggest a city is located between mountains and deserts. Can I use the verb "sit"?

What do you think about this?

The city sits between lofty mountains to the north, and a vast desert to the south.

What is your suggestion? Is there a better way to express the idea?

The city is located between/is bounded by lofty mountains to the north and a vast desert to the south.

That's possible. I might use 'nestles'.
This is a case where I might prefer the passive is nestled. That's a bit of a cliché, though, and I may just be responding to having seen the phrase in the passive.
