1) That is a bad thing for you to do.

Does that only mean it is bad for you, or could it mean it is simply immoral and wrong to do that?

I think in the latter case one would just say: It is a bad thing to do.

I think the 'for you' implies that 'you shouldn't do it', so I suppose that means that it is bad for you.

So:
2) Smoking is a bad thing for you to do.

makes sense.

But I am not sure

3) Stealing is a bad thing for you to do.

does make much sense.

Not sure at all...

Gratefully,

I think that makes sense no full stop here but I am not sure

3) Stealing is a bad thing for you to do.
I think that does make much sense. The underlined part doesn't make sense. What do you mean?

I'm not at all sure. at all...

Note my changes to the layout above. Please don't spread your sentences across multiple lines, and don't add so many line breaks. Also, please don't use different colours in your posts. Use all black. We use different colours to make corrections and comments.

Are you making up sentences and asking us what you mean again?

If a speaker chooses to use for you, there's a reason why he does so. That reason is that he's thinking of how the thing is bad for you. He's essentially saying something about you.
