If you're trying to come up with a direct speech version of your "... so I asked him to come halfway to do the deal", neither of them is correct.

"I travelled halfway to meet him" could only be said after the meeting.
"I told him that we would meet somewhere halfway to do the deal" doesn't mean the same as asking him to come halfway.

What exactly are you trying to do here? When do you plan to say your sentence - before or after you meet him?
