[General] A line from the lyrics of a song

Does this sentence ( a line from a song) make sense-'Still the fare of love is true.' Some lyrics show this line as 'Still the fire of love is true' which I realise does make sense.
I'd like to know if using the word,'fare' in this sense makes sense. Appreciate any views on this. Thank you.
 
It sounds like fire to me too. Mind you, he's singing in an odd way, not like much of his work.
