[General] A line from the lyrics of a song

Does this sentence ( a line from a song) make sense-'Still the fare of love is true.' Some lyrics show this line as 'Still the fire of love is true' which I realise does make sense.
I'd like to know if using the word,'fare' in this sense makes sense. Appreciate any views on this. Thank you.

It doesn't make much sense in context. I Googled the lyrics and found it both ways. Then I listened to the song. I'n my opinion, the singer says "fire".
