Dear all,

I have some doubts concerning the usage of 'major' meaning 'specialize in' and I need your help. Is it possible to use 'major' as meaning the same as a 'degree' or does he have special context and usage?

For example, may we say: I have a major in English Literature or I have a degree in English Studies, major English Literature.

Thank you,

In American colleges and universities, you major in a subject. If you complete your studies, you will have a degree in that field.
