a month vs one month

(1) I will stay in Mexico for a month.

(2) I will stay in Mexico for one month.

How do you know when to use which one: a month and one month? Thanks a lot.
 
They mean the same thing, though the second one can be a little more emphatic.
 
The second one is emphatic.
