Is "a Phd aspirant" a comprehensive translation of a term for a person who is going to get a PhD at university?

In the U.S., where we punctuate PhD as Ph.D. and use an article before hospital and university, we speak of Ph.D. candidates.

What do you mean by "going to get"? Do you mean a student who is in the process of doing their PhD? Or just someone who dreams about doing one in the future?

In any case, don't use the word aspirant.
