a PTA meaning

Dear Friends,

I wonder if there is such a thing in the US/UK when parents go to school and enquire about their children's grades, behaviour, etc. It should be done in an organized fashion or by appointment. The terms I have come across:

1. a PTA meeting (from the movie Derailed) - no - as I see it on Youtube it is something very different
2. consulting hours (for the teachers) (?)

In the US, such a one-on-one meeting is called a "Parent-Teacher Conference."
Most schools set aside certain days throughout the school year for Parent-Teacher Conferences, and the parents are assigned a specific time to meet with their child's instructor to discuss grades, behavior, areas for improvement, etc.

In the UK it's a Parents' Evening.

And for info - in the UK, we do have (or at least we did 30-odd years ago) a PTA at schools. It stood for "Parent/Teacher Association". Both my parents were members and would be involved with extra-curricular school activities - jumble sales, summer fetes. At my primary school the PTA even built an outdoor swimming pool for the school during the summer break!
