Is the following sentence correct grammatically? If so, then What does it mean? , What is the importance of parentheses?


His great-great-grandfather ( Nelson Bridger?) supposedly fought in the Black Hawk War.

Another example, Chaucer was born in 1343(?). ( Why does the question mark come in the parentheses and Why does the period come after the question mark?

The question mark represents uncertainty in both parenthetical statements. A period follows the parentheses after the date to end the sentence.

In the first sentence, Does it mean the speaker is not certain about his great-great-grandfather's name Nelson Bridger? or Is not he certain about his participation in the war?

Placing both the name and the question mark in parentheses means he's uncertain about the name.

Please review the rules of capitalization. Don't capitalize words within sentences unless they are proper nouns.

I've marked incorrect upper case letters in red. Don't put a space after an opening parenthesis.
