I have a doubt
an unidentified flying object ... this is clear yet when we come to the acronym I usually use a ufo but could I also say an ufo? (I don't believe the latter is right)

No. I underlined sound. As another reply has said, the 'U' of 'UFO' doesn't start with a vowel sound.
