The Kansas City Royals have mastered the art of falling behind big, but never giving up.
It just hasn’t led to many wins.
Like clockwork, the Royals (8-25) made a valiant effort to rally after finding themselves down 9-2 in the fifth inning to the Oakland Athletics on Friday night at Kauffman Stadium.

A major effort to root out corruption is sweeping Ukraine. In recent weeks, leaders have announced the results of several major investigations, as well as firings and resignations across its government.

It seems to me that "effort" and "effort" have different meanings?
Do "effort" and "effort" really have different meanings?

Why do you think they don't mean the same thing in those two sentences? What difference in meaning did you feel you got?
