c) whatever
d) no matter.

I would choose "b) however hard"...

B is a good answer. C also works.

I think the only one that absolutely won't work is D.

For me, A would require an "of" before "how".

Even then, I would find "regardless of how I tried" unnatural, without the use of "hard" after "how".
