What does A1 [ C ] stand for? C seems to stand for countable. But what does A1?

A1, B1, etc count the different definitions, and subsets would be A2, etc.

Huh?

They relate to the publisher's word lists. Those words listed as A1 are those that appear on the A1 word list. These lists are generally related to frequency.

In other words, words listed as A1 are the words that a learner working towards a level of A2 should focus on. The word girl is an elementary level word.
