I'm confused about "across" and "across from"



In this rough map,
1.The supermarket is across the bank.
2.The supermarket is across from the bank.

Which one is correct?
I think both of them are okay. Am I right?

'The supermarket is across from the bank' or 'The supermarket is opposite the bank.'

The symbol ~ may have its uses, but replacing a full stop (or period) is not one of them.
