respected teachers, i am confused about the use of 'other' in comparative and superlative degree ,,,
I have two sentence for example

1.The Nile is longer than any other river in India.

2.The Nile is longer than any other river in the world.

in 1st sentence the use of other is wrong while in the 2nd its correct , please help me out, appreciated, thanx.

The first is wrong because the Nile River is not in India. The first would be correct if the word "other" is removed.

Mike is exactly right. When you say other, you're putting the Nile is in India. You could say the Ganges is longer than any other river in India. But the Nile is not another river in India.

- Start every sentence with a capital letter.
- End every sentence with a single, appropriate punctuation mark.
- Always capitalise the word "I".
- Do not put a space before a comma, full stop, question mark or exclamation mark.
- Always put a space after a comma, full stop, question mark or exclamation mark.
