Dear all:

What is the meaning of the following passage? It is from the book Anglo-Iranian relations since 1800, edited by Vanessa Martin, p. 52:

The money was was interested on a loan to the British in 1852 by Nawab Ghazi al-Din Haydar, and became active in 1849.

They had to start repaying the loan in 1849.

However, are you sure you copied the dates correctly? I'm not sure how they would start paying interest on a loan three years before the loan was issued.

Yes, the text is exactly so, but I think the two date should be replaced.

I think you mean something like 'reversed' instead of 'replaced', but I agree they do seem to be switched.
