Hello,

- "And thus began the chain of mistakes that led us here." -Varys

This sentence is from Games of Thrones. (the link:
http://www.imdb.com/news/ni58498665/)

I would like to ask why an inversion is used after the word 'thus' in the above sentence. I would also ask if we can
apply the structure to such words as 'therefore, hence, etc' or not.

It's a structure frequently used in literary/poetical contexts, but not in everyday conversation.

You can use it after 'hence' and 'whence' but offhand I'm not sure about 'therefore' or any other adverbs.
