I understand the "Ape" part (the gorilla is an ape) of the pun, but, would you tell me please, if "lle" has some meaning, too?

What did the Gorilla do with the apple he was holding in his hands?

Yes, a pun on apple was obvious (since he literally brought it to the teacher). The main issue was, why it was "ape-lle" and not, "apel" for instance. They apparently wanted to focus on the "ape" part, but the rest seems to not make sense.

If they'd used "apel", it wouldn't necessarily have been clear that "ape" was an integral part of the invented word. They could have used "ape-le", although anyone familiar with French might have been inclined to read it as "ape luh", which wouldn't sound like "apple".
I wouldn't waste any more time on this if I were you. It's meant to be a spoken joke. It doesn't translate to written English particularly well.

Yes, but with some puns in a foreign language, you don't know if it's the joke that is not so good, or it's your English.

I think that the word ape would have been lost in your second spelling, so the first is there to make the pun clearer, though not funnier. Ape-l wouldn't have worked either. Ape-el could work, but it's such a laboured pun that the person settled on something that does look wrong.
