In the following sentence, which is the better choice? Thank you.

When difficulty (A. arises B. befalls), it helps.

Befalls is a transitive verb. Evil befalls someone. Therefore arises is the only possible choice. But even then your sentence does not make a lot of sense.

"When difficulty arises it helps." How, who, when or what does it help?

I'm not sure what you mean by "cooler". Generally, we don't speak English (here) to sound cool!

Please note my corrections above. It's important to follow these rules of written English at all times:
- Start every sentence with a capital letter.
- End every sentence with one, appropriate punctuation mark.
- Capitalise the word "I" every time you write/type it.
