Hello everybody,

I need someone to explain the meaning of AS in the sentence below:
"This definition as distinguished from the second one."
My aim is to understand the use of as in that sentence. I have another example:
" It was given to Abraham the responsibility of keeping alive the truth of one god as distinguished from the prevailing belief in plural deities."
I would love to be able to understand that, could you help?
What is the function of as in sentences like these? I have seen so many of them,...as(adj)..from...
Please help me.
Thank you

as = used for saying that something is considered in a particular way

this definition as (its being) distinguished from the second one

as = preposition

as distinguished from... = prepositional phrase functioning adjectivally (it qualifies "this definition")

I am almost there Finicky, thanks for the help. Can you help with the meaning of distinguished in this phrase?
Thank you so much

'As distinguished from' is similar in meaning to, and much less commonly used than, as distinct from.
