Which are correct:

1) He had as many books as I.
2) He had as many books as I did.
3) He had as many books as me.

I think they all work, but '1' is a bit old-fashioned and '3' is informal.

Gratefully,
Navi.

1. is grammatically. correct.
2. works but "as I had" would be more normal.
3. is not grammatical but it is very common.

Virtually every American uses 2 or 3. Many teachers have tried in vain to get them to use 1. Your textbooks may say that 3 is incorrect but few modern authorities agree.

I think 3 is incorrect because 'as' is a conjunction rather than a preposition there.

I agree with Mike in that I would say:

He had as as many books as I had.
